This TERRIFYING Photograph Will Haunt Your Dreams...

Kevin Carter took this picture in 1993 whilst covering the famine in Sudan. The frail little boy is starving and was initially believed to be a girl. Lying face down in the hot sun the boy is being eyed greedily by a hooded vulture. The child was trying to reach a United Nations feeding centre about a half mile away in Ayod, but was just too weak to walk. Carter received the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for the image in 1994. But he was highly criticised for taking a photo instead of helping the child and was accused of making "Poverty Porn". In 2011 a man came forward and revealed that the child was in fact a boy named Kong Nyong and he had survived and been cared for at the UN food station. Unfortunately he died in around 2007 from a fever. Just four months after receiving the Pulitzer, Carter committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of just 33. Traumatised by the things that he had witnessed in Africa and the condemnation of the work he did there contributed towards him ending his own life. Part of his suicide note read – " I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain … of starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of killer executioners"
