A REALLY Scary Elevator Horror Story...

In January 1995 James Chenault was at work at the Kingsbridge Welfare Center in the Bronx borough of New York when he boarded an elevator on the first floor with four other people.
They immediately noticed that the car made a very speedy trip to the second floor, and when the doors opened, the elevator wasn't lined up with the floor.

James in a chivalrous act decided to hold the doors open and straddle the small gap between the elevator and building, so that the women in the car could get off.
One person made it out before the elevator car shot upwards, killing Mr. Chenault instantly….His head with stereo headphones still attached tumbled into the elevator with the three remaining passengers, and his body fell about 20 feet down the elevator shaft.

In the aftermath it was reported that a mechanic was working on the bank of six elevators, although the one Mr Chenault was in had passed safety checks just weeks earlier.

A truly horrific and tragic accident.
