This British Spy Was Found in a Suitcase and No One Really Knows How...

In 2010, 31 year old Gareth Williams was found dead in a padlocked holdall in a bath in his London flat… Decomposition indicated he had been dead for around 7 days. Mr Williams worked for GCHQ and at the time of his death was on secondment to MI6. There were no fingerprints or signs of struggle, and the front door had been locked from the outside.

Theories about his death ranged from a sex game gone wrong to a Russian hit. An inquest found that his death was 'unnatural and likely to have been criminally mediated'. However a subsequent re-investigation concluded that Williams's death was 'probably an accident'.

In 2023 an expert investigator attempted to lock himself inside an identical holdall more than 300 times in an attempt to unravel the case. He failed on every occasion and believes Gareth was already dead when he was put in the bag. So who killed him and have they got away with murder?
