Asian 'Door to Hell' Is Сlosing, And That's a Huge Problem

The Darvaza gas crater in Turkmenistan has been burning for over 50 years. The hole is 226 feet wide, located in the Karakum Desert, and has become a major tourist attraction. Visitors travel for more than three hours across the desert just to see the flames. But recently, the fire has started to fade. Tourists now see only a few small flames at the bottom of the crater instead of the huge fire that used to be there. Stopping the fire reduces waste and pollution, but it cuold also destroy one of Turkmenistan's most famous tourist sites. Many local people and tourist companies depend on the crater for income. The country now faces a difficult trade-off.
