When the true identity of the infamous Yorkshire Ripper was revealed in 1981, the public breathed a sigh of relief. Peter Sutcliffe, the man behind the heinous slayings of at least thirteen women, had finally been apprehended and would no longer be a threat. But after the relief dissolved, it gave way to questions and criticism. Sutcliffe had been interviewed nine times by West Yorkshire Police, during the five-year investigation.

How had he evaded the authorities for so long? And what were the implications of the investigators’ failure to capture Sutcliffe when he was right under their noses? In this documentary, we will take a look at these questions and more as we explore the life and crimes of Peter Sutcliffe: The Yorkshire Ripper.
