Horrors Found in This Man's House...

To the residents of Plainfield, Wisconsin Ed Gein was known as a likable oddball, someone they trusted to do odd jobs and babysit their children, but little did they know the terrible horrors that lay in the home he lived in.
This photo was one of several that were released by police after they searched Gein's home in 1957. The house was full of human remains, bones and organs in jars, along with chairs, masks, clothes, lampshades and other items made out of human skin and other body parts. In a shed outside the corpse of missing Plainfield hardware store owner Bernice Worden was found decapitated, hung up and dressed like a deer.

Investigators discovered that Gein exhumed corpses from local graveyards to make his gruesome artifacts. He also confessed to killing two local women. Gein was initially found unfit to stand trial and confined to a mental health facility, but by 1968, he was judged competent to stand and found guilty of the murder of Bernice Worden. However he was later declared legally insane and was remanded to a psychiatric institution where he died on July 26, 1984, aged 77.
