Something Strange Beneath Greenland’s Ice Sparks Global Alarm

Something strange is spreading across Greenland’s ice — and it’s alive. Scientists have discovered massive blooms of dark algae covering parts of the ice sheet. Unlike ordinary dust or dirt, this biological growth absorbs sunlight, trapping heat and accelerating the melting process.

The darker the ice becomes, the faster it melts. And as melting increases, more algae can grow — creating a dangerous feedback loop that could speed up sea level rise far beyond previous expectations.

Greenland holds enough ice to dramatically reshape coastlines worldwide. If this cycle continues unchecked, the impact on global climate systems could be severe.

Is this the beginning of a much larger climate shift?
