B-52 Bomber Plane Containing TWO Nuclear Bombs Crashes into The Ground...

A nuclear weapon has never been used since 1945, when two were dropped on Japan bringing about the end to WWII. But since the conception of the atom bomb humans have been living through the most dangerous time in their history. And the amount of near misses should give us all cause for alarm. Scarily many of these instances were caused by silly mistakes or a lack of basic communication. A B-52 bomber broke up in mid-air in January 1961. It was carrying two Mark 39 nuclear bombs. Each bomb was about 250 times more destructive than the one dropped on Hiroshima. The plane came down in Goldsboro, North Carolina and with it fell the eight-megaton cargo and the image shows one of the bombs. In 2013 declassified information was released that showed how close the bombs came to detonating, although the US government denied there was any danger at the time. If the worst had happened and the bombs had exploded and the wind was blowing just right, then the lethal radioactive fallout would have reached New York.
