The Nutty Putty Cave Incident...

On November 24th 2009, John Jones, his brother Josh and 9 friends decided to explore Nutty Putty Cave; a notoriously tricky hydrothermal cave formation located just West of Utah lake. John entered the part known as the Birth Canal, a very tight passage that even experienced spelunkers struggle to crawl through. After entering head first John gets stuck in a space that is barely 10 inches across and 18 inches high with his arms pinned beneath his chest. Josh tried to pull his brother out but made things worse and rescuers were called. All they could see was a pair of navy and black running shoes.


Time was running out for John...the downward angle at which he was trapped was putting huge stress on his body and his blood was struggling to pump round. For 24 hours rescue workers tried to free John and almost freed him using a pulley system. When suddenly without warning one of the pulleys failed causing John to slide even deeper into the crevice. All hope was lost, and sadly John died of heart failure shortly before midnight on Nov. 25. His body was never recovered and remains sealed up in the cave to this day
