NASA Has Started Shutting Down Voyager 1

Voyager 1 just gave NASA engineers a serious scare. A sudden drop in power forced mission control to shut down one of its key scientific instruments in order to keep the spacecraft alive in deep space. Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 has now traveled beyond the Solar System and is still sending back data from interstellar space — but its nuclear power source is slowly fading. To extend its mission, NASA has been carefully shutting down instruments one by one. Now only a few systems remain active as engineers fight to keep humanity’s most distant spacecraft operational for as long as possible. But how long can Voyager 1 survive in the darkness beyond the Sun?
