On the morning of Aug. 3, 1952, Shel Alpert, took this famous image from Salem's Coast Guard Air Station in Massachusetts. It appears to show four unidentified flying objects hovering across the skies of Salem. The objects were also spotted above the Winter Island and Cat Cove areas. Some have claimed that the lights are simply reflections in the window through which it was taken. However some believe the UFO is linked to other incidents throughout the 1950s where similar formations were witnessed. The truth is no one really knows and this enduring image could be one of the first times earth was visited by extraterrestrial beings.
