This Mysterious Ancient Egyptian Stone Holds The Answers To Ancient Egypt

It's hard to believe this plain-looking slab is one of the most important objects in history and was the key to unlocking Egypt's ancient past. Napoleon's conquering forces discovered the stone on July 19, 1799, in a run-down fort in Rosetta, Egypt. It is covered in three types of writing, Demotic, hieroglyphic and Greek. At the time, nobody knew how to read ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. But because all three scripts said the same thing and scholars could read Ancient Greek, it became crucial in deciphering hieroglyphics, although it took 23 years to fully decrypt! However, the stone remains controversial as a spoil of war and colonial expansion, with many believing it was stolen by the British. It currently resides in the British Museum, which has over six million visitors annually… But for how long?
