On November 16th, 1982, Deputy Larry Szabo came across an unusual scene while out on patrol along Interstate Route 80 in Carbon County, Wyoming. At the end of an off ramp leading down to the Wagonhound Rest Area, a car sat still in the intersection, with the driver’s side door open and what appeared to be clothes strewn about on the ground. As he approached, he could see that there was nobody in the vehicle, which was parked but still running, and the only sign that anyone had been there was a solitary trail of footprints leading north into the snow covered prarie. Deputy Szabo called the strange situation in, and it wasn’t long before more deputies arrived on scene to assist in the search for the car’s missing owner; but it didn’t take long for things to go from odd to bizarre.
