French warships of the future are being built right now, inside shipyards that cameras almost never enter.

Naval Group is the only company in the world that builds every type of combat ship: the new FDI frigate, a mine hunter that fights with drones, France's third generation nuclear missile submarine, and an aircraft carrier that will be the largest nuclear-powered surface ship ever built in Europe. Behind the gates of Cherbourg and Lorient, steel several centimetres thick is bent into hulls, propeller designs are guarded as state secrets, and a single photograph can reveal more than any enemy should ever learn. How do you build a warship that cannot be seen, cannot be heard and cannot be found? How do engineers place sixteen nuclear missiles next to a reactor? And what threat are these ships being built against? A rare look inside France's most secret shipyards.
