There are some videos on the internet that are disturbing because of what they show. Others are disturbing because of what they might mean. But every so often, a video appears that seems deliberately designed to make you question whether you've stumbled across something you were never supposed to see.

In 2015, a strange black-and-white recording began circulating online. It showed a motionless figure dressed in what appeared to be a plague doctor's costume, standing inside a derelict building. Its face was hidden behind a grotesque mask, and a small light blinked from one of its hands. The background was filled with an abrasive electronic noise that sounded less like music and more like a malfunctioning machine.
